* NEWSFLASH * - REU becomes REDD!!

Just to let you know that Communities and Local Government's Race Equality Unit (REU) has changed its name to the Race Equality and Diversity Division (REDD).

The name has been changed to ensure that REDD fits in better with the terminology that CLG uses to describe its structure and also brings together the Division's new responsibilities on equality and diversity within the Department building on their longstanding work across Government and beyond on race equality.

Connecting Communities (2003-2006) Evaluation

An evaluation of Round 2 of Connecting Communities 2003-2006 has recently been completed by A4e on behalf of Communities and Local Government. Round 2 aimed to “effect an increase in strong minority ethnic community networks and to help ensure that the most disadvantaged minority ethnic communities and individuals acquire greater access to public services, and to have influence over policy makers and service providers. Empowering communities in this way will help enhance their welfare, educational, and employment opportunities.”

CC+ National Networking Event

On 28th March 2007, representatives from across the country came together in Birmingham for the first Connecting Communities Plus project grant networking event.

The day provided those attending with a fantastic networking opportunity as they were able to meet other groups from their region and also organisations who are involved in similar fields of work, nationally. As well as being able to discuss common issues and frustrations, experienced as organisations and as individual projects, the groups were also able to share their success stories and methods of good practice. This sharing of news and positive ideas was facilitated by group discussions and enthralling workshops delivered by 3 of our Project grant holders – Core Arts, Support Against Racist Incidents (SARI) and Support 4 Progress.

Attending on behalf of Communities and Local Government (CLG), Rakshita Patel, gave an informative update on the work of CLG, the Race Equality and Diversity Division (REDD) and how the CC+ programme and the project grants, specifically, contribute to driving forward Government policy. Rakshita was impressed by the positive nature of the event and the passion and enthusiasm of everyone on the day – so thank you to everyone who attended and made the day such a great success!
